Meet Owner and Taxidermist John Dykstra
Since he was 10 years old, when he would tag along with his father, owner and licensed taxidermist John Dykstra has had an interest in the outdoors, going hunting, fishing, and trapping. He started performing taxidermy as a teenager using some old mail order taxidermy lessons from his dad. He got a B.S. degree in wildlife management from the University of Maine in 1979. In 1980, Northland Taxidermy was established as a partnership over a two-car garage in Old Town, ME.
After graduating in 1984 with a degree in mechanical engineering, John and his then business partner moved the business up the road to his business partner’s house. John took over full ownership of Northland Taxidermy in 1993, and moved the shop to its current location in Alton, 50 yards from his house. John takes pride in offering quality work at a fair price while treating his customers the way he wants to be treated.
